The head of Germany's Protestant Church has stepped down after being taken into custody over the weekend for running a red light while under the influence of alcohol. Margot Kässmann resigned from her positions as head of the church and bishop but will remain pastor of Hannover's largest church. Church officials had given her a vote of confidence but Kässmann said she felt the arrest undermined the credibility she would need to speak out on difficult issues.
