The Dalai Lama renews calls for Tibetan autonomy on the 50th anniversay of a revolt against Chinese rule

The Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, has reiterated calls for "meaningful autonomy" for Tibet within the framework of Chinese rule. He was speaking at a ceremony in northern India.. to mark the 50th anniversary of a failed uprising against Chinese rule. The Nobel Peace Laureate also said Chinese polices in Tibet had created virtual "hell on earth" for people there. The Chinese leadership remains unmoved - President Hu Jin Tao has called for a 'Great Wall' against separatism".
