The contemporary German painter and sculptor Anselm Kiefer has been awarded the German Book Trade's prestigious peace prize. In announcing its choice, the jury said Kiefer had developed a visual language that turned the viewer into a reader. The sixty-three year old artist ranks among the most well-known and most successful post-war German artists.
