The Art of the Firework: The Big Bang on New Year's Eve

Peter Sauer is head of an artistic fireworks firm in Augsburg. The family firm was founded in 1863. But you won't find ordinary bottle rockets of the sort sold in grocery stores here.

Instead the company specializes in pyrotechnic displays for special events such as the opening and closing ceremonies for large-scale celebrations. The artistic fireworks are still produced by hand. Peter Sauer and his five co-workers are busy with preparations for the New Year's Eve spectacular for the ski jumping world cup known as the Four Hills Tournament.
