Defence ministers from NATO countires are meeting for a second day of talks in Lithuania today. The main issue at the informal summit is the NATO mission in Afghanistan, where the alliance has been battling Taliban rebels while trying to stabilize the country. The US and Canada have been pressuring European states to take a more active combat role in Afghanistan, especially in the volitile South. France says it may be willing to help out there, but Germany has again stressed that its troops will remain in the North.
