Croatians are voting in a nationwide referendum on Sunday, on whether to join the European Union. Recent opinion polls show around 60 percent are pro-EU, in which case Croatia would formally join next year. Entry negotiations began six years ago. But the popularity of the EU has faded since then. More and more Croatians realize that EU membership also means sharing the problems the bloc is currently facing.
