The European Union says China and India should play a role in stabilizing the global economy. In a speech to the European Parliament, French President Nicolas Sarkozy and European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso said they would use meetings in Beijing this week to urge the two countries to join in taking responsibility. Sarkozy, whose country holds the EU's rotating presidency until 2009, said the upcoming international summit on the credit crisis must take bold action -- and that a failure to do so would be "fatal".
