Hamburg bagged a share of second spot in the Bundesliga table after Hannover equalized the match in the final minutes. Czech striker Jiri Stajner netted a late penalty to force the 2-2 draw.

Hamburg were cruising to a 2-1 win to close the gap behind leaders Leverkusen, who beat Eintracht Frankfurt 4-0 on Friday, before Stajner was hauled down with just five minutes left.

The 33-year-old made no mistake with his shot and drilled it past Hamburg goalkeeper Frank Rost. Hannover is now in ninth place in the standings.

Hamburg share second spot with neighbors Werder Bremen, who drew 1-1 at home with Dortmund after Argentine Lukas Barrios equalized Mesut Ozil's opener for Werder.

Bremen are second with 23 points, ahead of Hamburg on goal difference after a day of missed chances for the chasing pair.

In other matches on Sunday, bottom side Hertha Berlin slid to a 1-0 home loss to Cologne after striker Milivoje Novakovic netted the only goal at the Olympic stadium in the Berlin.

Hertha, with one win all season, are at the bottom of the standings while Cologne's Sunday win saw them exit the bottom three.
