Germany's highest court rules that the Lisbon Treaty is compatible in principle with the country's constitution

Germany's highest court has ruled that the European Union's Lisbon reform treaty is, in principle, compatible with the German constitution. The treaty - which aims to streamline E-U institutions - has already been approved by both houses of the German parliament. But the court also ruled that Germany can NOT ratify the treaty unless the Bundestag and the Bundesrat are given more of a say in major E-U decisions.
