Israel's ground offensive in Gaza is already being compared to the attack it launched on Hizbollah militants in Lebanon in the summer of 2006. That conflict lasted just over a month - and is widely viewed in Israel as a military failure. An internal government commission criticised the operation as a "missed opportunity... without a defined military victory."
