Football rivalry continues to reflect religious tensions in Scotland

In Scotland, sectarian chanting, and particularly some of the songs sung by fans of the Glasgow rangers, are considered "offensive" and display anti-Catholic hostility. The historic tension between opposing fans of the Celtic FC team, and the Glasgow Rangers, runs deep, and sometimes even deadly. The fierce rivalry in football reinforces a rift between protestants and catholics in society.
