The head of the European Central Bank, Jean-Claude Trichet has been awarded the Charlemagne prize for his efforts to stabilize the Euro. Trichet used the opportunity at the ceremony in Aachen to call for stronger European institutions so they can better confront future crises. The annual prize is given to individuals who contribute to European unity.
