The European Union is concerned about the situation in Tunisia - as says it would like to see democracy spread in the region. Tunisia was once a French colony - and some 600 thousand people of Tunisian origin live there. There are also Tunisian communities in several other European countries - like Belgium. Many people fled the country to escape Ben Ali's repressive regime. They are now closely following developments in their home country.
