And polls have also opened in the northern German city of Hamburg where Chancellor Angela Merkel's Christian Democrats are predicted to face another setback. After losing support in two other regional elections last month, they´re now likely to lose their absolute majority in Hamburg's State Parliament. But the Social Democrats are also facing tough competition from the Left Party, which has its roots in the former East German communist party.
