Thousands of people have fled their homes in eastern Congo as pro-government militia clashed with rebel forces near the town of Kiwanja. Some reports say the rebels have taken the town which is only 70 kilometers from Goma, the provincial capital of North Kivu. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is due to attend a summit of regional leaders in Kenya on Friday aimed at finding a solution to the crisis. Meanwhile, observers say a quarter of a million people have been displaced by the conflict.
