Curbing speculation on commodities could help stabilize global markets

Price hikes for staple foods hit those hardest who can least afford it - poor people in developing countries. In the 2008 financial crisis, speculation on commodities led to dramatic prize hikes, which triggered hunger rallies in many countries. Now prizes for food are peaking again. Markus Henn from the NGO World Economy, Ecology and Development (Weed) lobbies against speculations on food.
