China jails outspoken human rights activist for three and a half years - je 03.04.2008 14

Chinese officials have sentenced one of the country's highest-profile human rights campaigners to THREE-and-a-half years in prison. Hu Jia was found guilty of subversion, after he posted articles on the Internet about human rights and gave interviews to foreign reporters. Activists say it's part of China's push to quell dissent in the build up to the Summer Olympics in Beijing. +++syn-maz+++
