Airline security to be tightened worldwide as Europe debates the introduction of full body scanners

Michael BärJanuary 5, 2010

US President Barack Obama is due to announce new airline security measures later today in response to the attempted bombing of a passenger jet on Christmas Day. He will be meeting some twenty top officials to review what he has called 'human and systemic' failures in the incident. The US has already introduced tough new screening procedures for some airline passengers. Europe is also enhancing security at aiports. Britain and the Netherland are due to introduce full body scanners in the coming weeks- which critics say amounts to a virtual strip search of passengers.
