After cyclone in Burma: Hundreds of thousands of people are without shelter and clean drinking water - je 06.05.2008 08

Michael BärMay 6, 2008

Burma is now estimating the death toll from the weekend's cyclone at 15 thousand and officials say 30,000 people are missing. Hundreds of thousands of people are without shelter and clean drinking water. +++LM-REIN+++ Cyclone Nargis tore through one of Burma's most densely populated regions, the Irrawaddy River-delta in the south. Relief workers have had difficulty reaching some of its hardest hit islands and villages, so the full extent of damage and casualties is only now becoming apparent. +++LM-RAUS++ Other countries and international organizations have offered help and Burma's military junta, though normally isolationist, is giving what the UN called a cautious green light to some.
