British farmers are threatening to sue those found responsible for the UK's latest outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease.

So far, the infection has been confined to a small area in southern England and only a few hundred cattle have been slaughtered.

However, the effects have rippled through rural communities across Britain and costs have been escalating. That could mean a multi-million dollar lawsuit for the American pharmaceutical company Merial Animal Health, which has been identified as one possible source of the outbreak.
