A one-minute news overview in English and German is available in 3GPP format, both as a stream and to download. The headlines are updated every hour.

"Our worldwide target group wants to use media, including television news, independent of time and place and, with this attractive format for our mobile products, we are fulfilling that need," said DW-TV's editor-in-chief, Dagmar Engel.

Since 2005, Deutsche Welle has offered special Internet services for cell phone and other mobile devices. The offering was expanded to incorporate 20 languages for the 2006 soccer World Cup. Both the English and German programming from DW-RADIO recently became available by mobile phone as well.

"The new video format for mobile phones is another step towards implementing DW'S multiplatform strategy," said Holger Hank, director of new media. "Our goal is to make DW's programs and products available on as many sustainable platforms as possible."
