Where and when - receiving DW Radio in DRM
October 9, 2006Deutsche Welle's listeners in Europe - as opposed to those elsewhere - are the first to benefit from new high quality, digital broadcasts in the DRM standard.
Priority is given to ensuring clear, reliable reception in western Europe. But it is also possible to listen to Deutsche Welle's DRM broadcasts outside this region at certain times of the day.
Listeners in Spain and Portugal, the north of Great Britain, southern Scandinavia and parts of central Europe on Russia's western border will find they will be able to hear Deutsche Welle DRM transmissions early in the morning.
This is because propagation conditions vary with the time of day. Reception is sometimes possible in areas normally outside the transmitter range, assuming the receiver and the antenna have been specially set up for the task.
The maps you see on this page apply to DRM-capable receivers that are now commercially available. They show reception areas for three different times of the day and are valid for November 2006.
The most distant place to have received a Deutsche Welle DRM signal was a research station in the Antarctic.
