High Court to Rule on Delayed Election

Officials for Germany's highest court, the federal constitutional court, said Tuesday that judges will decide this week whether the results of Sunday's national election will be publicized immediately or whether they have to be held back until a postponed election in the eastern city of Dresden takes place two weeks later. Court officials said they have received "about half a dozen" complaints against publicizing the result on Sunday. Opponents argue that the Dresden vote would weigh more than that elsewhere if the race is close and Dresdeners realize that they could sway the outcome by voting tactically. The delayed election in Dresden became necessary after the candidate of a neo-Nazi party died last week and new ballots could not be printed quickly enough to include her replacement.
