German low-fare airline DBA said Friday that it flew in its first-ever profit in the year ended March 31 and was forecasting a sharp rise in revenues and passenger numbers in the current year. DBA said in a statement it booked net profit "of between one and two million euros" ($1.3-2.6 million) in the 12 months to March, the first-ever year-end profit since the budget carrier was set up in 1992. With three million passengers flying in its aircraft last year, revenues amounted to "around 265 million euros," DBA said. Detailed figures would be published once the annual accounts had been audited, it added. In the current year, it hoped passenger numbers would rise to 4.3 million and revenues would rise to around 400 million euros. The acquisition of rival no-frills airline Germania Express (Gexx), which will transform DBA into Germany's third-biggest airline after Lufthansa and Air Berlin, will be the key to growth, the group said.
