Voters in Iraq showed true courage in risking their lives to provide a better future for their children. They stand in marked contrast to the easily intimidated and increasingly tiny people of Europe. Events in Iraq are being portrayed as a victory for the "international community", but it is no such thing. This is a victory for Iraq made possible by the strong leadership of the US and it's president. -- Jerald Ronish

Thanks Germany, take pride in your steadfast support to help the Iraqi people shed the fascist regime of Saddam Hussein. You will be remembered for all time, standing shoulder to shoulder with glorious France for your courage, idealism and true, true commitment to democracy and against repression. Every German has shown the world what it is like to be a new European. Best of luck in the future. -- "A US ex-GI"

You entitled your article about the series of attacks. However, the most salient point of the article was that 72 percent of the Iraqis voted. That is a great success and the Iraqis did it. Too bad most of your readers will be left with the idea the effort was useless. With the help of the US-led coalition -- from which the Germans abstain. Here would be an idea for an article: World moves toward freedom; EU defends the state. -- John

If Iraqi citizens outside Iraq, 18 to 55, male or female, want freedom, then they should enlist in Mr. Bush's Grand Coalition to root out "terror" in their country. These lip servers of freedom for Iraq should join Mr. Bush's army and liberate their country -- no American or any other nationality should have to fight or die for their right to a "free" nation! All the Iraqis outside of Iraq who believe as Mr. Bush does need to get home and do some fighting! They need to fight first, and some must die or be maimed for life before they vote for a Bush league "doe-mock-cracy" founded in their country! -- WS Berry

Sixty years ago the world witnessed the liberation of Auschwitz and on Sunday the world witnessed the liberation of democracy in Iraq. This should be a reminder for those who contend that military force is never warranted. It is time for Europe and Germany to strengthen their military and diplomatic stance against tyranny. From Teheran to Havana, let freedom ring. -- Marc Liberati, Pittsburgh, USA
