Should the Catholic Church change its traditions to suit the movement pressing for change?

It is an insult to the laity's intelligence for the pope to require the clergy to be celibate on grounds of divinity, and because Jesus was celibate. Jesus didn't wear a shirt and tie or use a telephone. Does that mean priests cannot wear a shirt and tie or use a telephone? – Howard R., USA

If they do not want to be Catholics, they should join another sect. There are many sects that already offer what they want. The Catholic Church has its rules. I believe in them, and so do millions like me. The few who want to change it have no right to claim they are Catholics. Keep the Catholic Church as it is. – Tony, Canada

Yes, the church should allow priests to marry and women to be ordained. The church must also locate and prosecute all pedophiles, whether male or female, and all who covered up for them. Pedophiles and their enablers must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and jailed. – Kay G., USA

I support the changes in ordination. I know former priests who married, but would gladly come back if allowed. The church has been rocked with multi-country cases of pedophilia. Let us change the good old boys, cardinals and bishops, and reform our church. The law of celibacy is man-made and needs to be changed. In California, where I live, the Los Angeles Diocese has given millions to children who were abused. Let devout men and women save our church! – Richard S., USA
