This year the orchestra from the Music Academy of Hanoi will be performing at the Beethovenfest in Bonn as part of the Orchestra Campus – as proposed by Deutsche Welle. In addition, the Vietnamese composer Tran Manh Hung has been commissioned to create a piece of music, with the premiere of his work for violin and orchestra taking place on September 27, 2009, within the framework of the Orchestra Campus. In cooperation with Deutsche Welle, the Beethovenfest has also planned to return to Vietnam in January 2010. This will be part of the German-Vietnam Culture Year, which has been developed by the governments from both countries. Joint concerts and workshops with Vietnamese musicians will be part of the program in Hanoi.

As media partner, Deutsche Welle is continuing to make the Beethovenfest a globally-recognized event with the help of DW-RADIO, DW-TV and online at www.dw-world.de/beethoven. Since last fall, more than 600,000 users have taken advantage of Deutsche Welle’s audio content from the Beethovenfest – a considerable increase from the year before. In the previous year audio content was only accessed 180,000 times.

Deutsche Welle also offers live recordings from concerts that took place from 2001 to 2008. Among others, users can download the Beethoven cycle from 2008 with Kurt Masur, the German Chamber Philharmonic Bremen, the Beaux Arts Trio, the pianist Elena Bashkirova, the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn and the pianist Paul Lewis, as well as junior orchestras from Russia, Egypt, South Africa, China, Georgia, Poland, Turkey and Ukraine. The young musicians were part of the Orchestra Campus from Deutsche Welle and the Beethovenfest. The orchestras play symphonies from Beethoven as well as period pieces from young composers who are commissioned by Deutsche Welle.

Deutsche Welle has already begun to report on the upcoming festival and a quiz has also been produced. Starting in April, Deutsche Welle will begin to promote the Beethovenfest worldwide and DW-TV will broadcast television spots. In total, Deutsche Welle will produce more than 5,000 minutes of programming with reports from the Beethovenfest. In addition to the audio content, DW-WORLD.DE will also have features and articles about the festival.
